What is Application (App) Gateway in cyber security?

A network security device that filters application-level traffic.

An Application (App) Gateway, also known as an Application Gateway or Application Firewall, is a network security device that filters incoming and outgoing traffic at the application level. It monitors, controls, and secures application-specific traffic, such as HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP. App Gateways are used to protect applications from threats like SQL injection, cross-site scripting (XSS), and other application-layer attacks. They provide fine-grained control over application traffic, enhancing security by inspecting and filtering data based on predefined security policies.
