What is Social Engineering in cyber security?

Manipulating people into giving up confidential information.

Social engineering is a tactic where attackers manipulate individuals into divulging confidential information or performing actions that compromise security. This can be done through various means, such as phishing, pretexting, baiting, and tailgating. Unlike technical attacks, social engineering exploits human psychology rather than vulnerabilities in software. Awareness and training are key to recognizing and preventing social engineering attacks, which rely on deception and trickery.
