What is Spoofing in cyber security?

Spoofing refers to fraudulent or malicious practices whereby communication from an unknown source is disguised as being from a known, trusted source. It can take many forms, such as IP address spoofing (altering the IP address headers of packets), email spoofing (disguising emails to appear from a trusted source), or GPS spoofing (manipulating GPS data to give false location information). Spoofing is frequently employed as a method for tricking targets into revealing sensitive information, bypassing network access controls, or spreading malware.
