What is Defense-in-Depth in cyber security?

A security strategy that uses multiple layers of defense.

Defense-in-Depth is a cybersecurity strategy that employs multiple layers of defense to protect against a variety of threats. This approach assumes that no single security measure is infallible and that layering multiple security controls provides more comprehensive protection. Layers may include firewalls, intrusion detection systems, antivirus software, encryption, and employee training. By implementing a range of defenses, organizations can better protect their systems and data, detect and respond to threats more effectively, and mitigate the impact of potential security incidents.
